Comparing Ways of Losing Weight

Comparing Ways of Losing Weight

It is known that common ways of losing weight are diet, low-calorie diet, and weight-loss recipes and so on. But do you know which of those ways are good for you? Here are some tips:

Diet, as we know, is the most traditional way of losing weight. When you are on diet, you have to eat a little even nothing so that you can be slim enough. However, at the same time, the body does not have enough calories to meet its basic physiological needs of energy. As a result of insufficient energy to meet the demand, the body will automatically reduce the fundamental physiological functions. Thus, lean muscle, as well as the strength of the muscle, decreases. The muscle’s reduction can further lead the rate of the body’s basic metabolism to get lower and lower, because the metabolism of calorie is mainly consumed by the lean muscle. As the lean muscle become less and less, the fat of the body will definitely increase to make up for the demand of metabolism. Therefore, in the body, it forms a vicious circle which can be called ‘yo-yo effect’.

LCD and VLCD are a kind of diet which provides you with low calorie, respectively 800-1500 calorie and 400-800 calorie. All nutrients, except calorie, are in full compliance with the advice of the proposed RDA. Such a diet contains a large amount of biological protein (45g-100g per day), moderate carbohydrates (100g per day), a small amount of fat with essential fatty acids, and the increasing availability of essential minerals and vitamins. It sounds like good you to lose weight, but what you have to know is that this method only applies to the severely obese (BMI?30) or people who have obesity-related diseases. People who have an ideal body or who are just mildly obese are not advised to be on such a diet which can also cause the imbalance of metabolism.

There are a lot of different recipes for losing weight, as far as we know. However, not all of them can make you slim while not damage your health because of different physical conditions. Most of those recipes don’t take into account the balance of nutrition and the basic demand of calorie the body requires. Thus, all those recipes are just reference for you to lose weight which cannot be totally trusted. If you really want to keep fit through a recipe, you have to make a recipe for yourself according to your own physical condition.

These three ways mentioned above are most common ways of losing weight. Compare them, and chose one way suitable for you but not blindly.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera

This plant belongs to the Aloe family, which consists of about 400 succulent plants. I chose to research this plant because I have one in my room, and I wanted to learn more about its evolution, as well as it’s medicinal qualities. Most likely, the origin of this plant is to be in North Africa, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde, but is unclear since it has been so widely cultivated. Some characteristics of the plant include: 1.) Constituents- this plant is full of enzymes, polysaccharides, vitamins and minerals that make up the medicinal qualities of the plant. (Some of the constituents include: aloins, enzymes, polysaccharides, vitamins C and E, essential fatty acids, resin, zinc, and a variety of others). 2.) Succulent- This plant can survive during long periods of drought without water. Believed to originate in northern Africa, this plant had to adapt to its environment by retaining as much water as possible. Despite the fact that it doesn’t receive a lot of water, Aloe vera is made up of 96% water. 3.) Vegetative reproduction- Aloe vera is very cool because it grows “pups” that can be ripped off, dried out (for a day or two), and replanted. The pups usually grow on the sides of the parent plant and have the smallest leaves on the plant. Aloe vera can also reproduce by using suckers or shoots.

Salted: A Manifesto on the World's Most Essential Mineral, with Recipes

Mark Bitterman is a man truly possessed by salt. As “selmelier” at The Meadow, the internationally recognized artisan-product boutique, Bitterman explains the promise and allure of salt to thousands of visitors from across the country who flock to his showstopping collection. “Salt can be a revelation,” he urges, “no food is more potent, more nutritionally essential, more universal, or more ancient. No other food displays salt’s crystalline beauty, is as varied, or as storied.”

In Salted, Bitterman traces the mineral’s history, from humankind’s first salty bite to its use in modern industry to the resurgent interest in artisan salts. Featuring more than 50 recipes that showcase this versatile and marvelous ingredient, Salted also includes a field guide to artisan salts profiling 80 varieties and exploring their dazzling characters, unique stories, production methods, and uses in cooking; plus a quick-reference guide covering over 150 salts. Salting is one of the more ingrained habits in cooking, and according to Bitterman, all habits need to be questioned. He challenges you to think creatively about salting, promising that by understanding and mastering the principles behind it—and becoming familiar with the primary types of artisanal salts available—you will be better equipped to get the best results for your individual cooking style and personal taste. Whether he’s detailing the glistening staccato crunch of fleur de sel harvested from millennia-old Celtic saltmaking settlements in France or the brooding sizzle of forgotten rock salts transported by the Tauregs across the Sahara, Bitterman’s mission is to encourage us to explore the dazzling world of salt beyond the iodized curtain.
