It is known that common ways of losing weight are diet, low-calorie diet, and weight-loss recipes and so on. But do you know which of those ways are good for you? Here are some tips:

(1)DIET

Diet, as we know, is the most traditional way of losing weight. When you are on diet, you have to eat a little even nothing so that you can be slim enough. However, at the same time, the body does not have enough calories to meet its basic physiological needs of energy. As a result of insufficient energy to meet the demand, the body will automatically reduce the fundamental physiological functions. Thus, lean muscle, as well as the strength of the muscle, decreases. The muscle’s reduction can further lead the rate of the body’s basic metabolism to get lower and lower, because the metabolism of calorie is mainly consumed by the lean muscle. As the lean muscle become less and less, the fat of the body will definitely increase to make up for the demand of metabolism. Therefore, in the body, it forms a vicious circle which can be called ‘yo-yo effect’.

(2)LOW-CALORIE (LCD) & VERY LOW-CALORIE (VLCD)

LCD and VLCD are a kind of diet which provides you with low calorie, respectively 800-1500 calorie and 400-800 calorie. This plant belongs to the Aloe family, which consists of about 400 succulent plants. I chose to research this plant because I have one in my room, and I wanted to learn more about its evolution, as well as it’s medicinal qualities. Most likely, the origin of this plant is to be in North Africa, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde, but is unclear since it has been so widely cultivated. Some characteristics of the plant include: 1.) Constituents- this plant is full of enzymes, polysaccharides, vitamins and minerals that make up the medicinal qualities of the plant. (Some of the constituents include: aloins, enzymes, polysaccharides, vitamins C and E, essential fatty acids, resin, zinc, and a variety of others). 2.) Succulent- This plant can survive during long periods of drought without water. Believed to originate in northern Africa, this plant had to adapt to its environment by retaining as much water as possible. Despite the fact that it doesn’t receive a lot of water, Aloe vera is made up of 96% water. 3.) Vegetative reproduction- Aloe vera is very cool because it grows “pups” that can be ripped off, dried out (for a day or two), and replanted. The pups usually grow on the sides of the parent plant and have the smallest leaves on the plant. Aloe vera can also reproduce by using suckers or shoots.
